McCann hails Dundee wonder boy

- By Euan McArthur

NEIL McCANN hailed wonder kid Kerr Waddell after his young defender came of age.

Waddell’s last-gasp header sunk the Jambos to stretch Dundee’s unbeaten run to three games and boss McCann said: ‘Set-pieces have cost us this season, so I’m pleased we’ve scored from two of ours.

‘And the young boy Waddell, my goodness, I wouldn’t like to get caught in the back of the head from that boy. He’s so powerful.

‘He showed his determination to get on the end of it, so I’m thrilled for him.’

No one will be more relieved at Waddell’s winner than Sofien Moussa. The striker’s poor back-pass let Kyle Lafferty in to equalise.

McCann took off the Tunisian after his blunder and the Dundee boss added: ‘I thought he lost his composure, so I took him off. He made a huge mistake and unfortunately for him Lafferty came up with a super goal.

‘I told him it was unacceptable and that it was a crazy decision.’

Meanwhile, Hearts manager Craig Levein bemoaned his side’s dreadful defending.

Levein said: ‘Losing the game in that manner is tragic. It’s an absolute basic of basics not to pick up men at corners.

‘It was mind-blowing to shoot ourselves in the foot the way we did.

‘We should have had the game dead and buried in the second half.

‘It was the best we’ve played in that period since I came back into the job and I thought at least we’d take a draw.

‘I’ve experienced all emotions.’
