Swans are a-singing as Narsingh leaves it late to snatch vital victory

-

CHRISTMAS may have passed but Swansea finally have reason to be cheerful this festive season after coming from behind to snatch a late victory at Watford.

Trailing to Andre Carrillo’s 11th-minute opener heading into the final five minutes, it had looked as though new Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal would taste defeat in his first match in charge.

The visitors were lucky to still be in the match by that point, though, as Molla Wague’s effort chalked off for a push in the penalty area.

Then with four minutes remaining, Watford record signing Andre Gray saw his strike saved by Lukasz Fabianski and Swansea counter-attacked.

It was swift, it was clinical, Jordan Ayew getting on the end of Oli McBurnie’s knock down to level the scores.

Three minutes later, Swansea were ahead as Luciano Narsingh smashed in a rebound.

‘A difficult game. Watford have a good team,’ said Carvalhal.

‘We deserved a win, luck is part of the game — they were lucky when we put the ball on the bar. We had some parts where Lukasz Fabianski made fantastic saves.

‘I am very, very happy with what they did on the pitch in a hard situation.

‘We put four midfielders on the side to try to find space. We didn’t play the first 45 minutes as we wish as we had some problems to control.

‘The last 15 minutes we solved this problem. We started taking risks and put more players in attack. First Luciano Narsingh on the right and Renato Sanches on the left to try and connect the game.’

Burnley closed to within seven points of a top-four place after a 0-0 draw at Huddersfield.

Newcastle could only draw by the same scoreline at home to Brighton.
