QUINN IS AIMING TO CHANGE THE RECORD AT OFF-KEY TANGERINES

- Ewing Grahame

DUNDEE UNITED may have changed managers last month but their Paisley pattern remains the same. Ray McKinnon lost twice at St Mirren earlier this year and, on Friday, Csaba Laszlo’s side suffered the same fate as Celtic-bound Lewis Morgan scored twice without reply.

It left the Tangerines trailing Jack Ross’s Championship leaders by five points — albeit with a game in hand — and it was a blow to the visitors, who boast the best defensive record in the second tier.

United had dropped just two points in their previous seven fixtures but centre-half Paul Quinn insists that he and his team-mates must learn to cope with the pressure of being the biggest fish in their particular pool, stressing that automatic promotion is essential after last season’s play-off final loss to Hamilton.

‘Nothing has changed since the first day of the season and it won’t change tomorrow, next week or whenever,’ said the former Motherwell, Aberdeen and Ross County man.

‘We want to win the league and we can’t hide away from that. We’re the favourites and the so-called biggest club but we need to be able to cope with that and stand up to it.

‘Lewis Morgan is a fantastic footballer and he won the game for Saints but I certainly believe that we have four or five players in the same bracket, guys who are potential game-changers.’
