Laszlo’s shame is Bairns boss Hartley’s pride

examine what they have done today. They cannot hide behind somebody else’s back.

‘We didn’t lose just three points today — we lost everything that we have built up until now. We brought the fans to the stadium and they have always supported us.

‘After ten minutes it looked a promising game for us with the goal, but after that it was just a disaster. You can talk about the artificial pitch. Or the 11 injuries we had. But this was not Dundee United.’

Laszlo cited a lack of fight on the field and turned on his players for not earning their pay.

He continued: ‘You have a chairman there who pays the salary and this is what you give back?

‘Fine, if you want to be in the middle of the table, but that is not our aim. We want to be in the Scottish Premiership. This was a performance against the fans, the board, the chairman — everybody!

‘I cannot be positive, I’m sorry.

‘You can scream from the sidelines but we are showing no fight in the one-versus-one challenges.

‘We cannot have excuses. We did this in the jersey of Dundee United. We have to feel shame about that.’

While Laszlo lamented, Falkirk manager Paul Hartley could celebrate what was by some distance his finest hour since taking over earlier in the season.

‘I thought we were exceptional,’ he said. ‘We went a goal down but we dominated from start to finish against a team challenging at the top of the league.

‘We have added a few fresh faces and I can see progress. We have set a standard and we have to try and maintain that.

‘It will take time but I believe we can get back to the top flight. There is a long way to go and we are in a position we don’t want to be in, but we’ve shown we have enough quality.’

Hartley had technical director Alex Smith for company in the dugout yesterday after assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl left to join Rangers.

‘We are going to try and bring someone in long term,’ added Hartley. ‘We have a few people in mind.’
