Letters Lady V... and the dilemma facing all women

-

I read Lady Victoria Hervey’s article in last week’s Mail on Sunday about freezing her eggs and I think it’s great that she’s doing it.

It’s getting more and more difficult to find a decent man in this day and age and as women get older, the pressure to meet someone might force you to settle with someone you may not love.

And women have a tricky balancing act in trying to find the best man possible while maintaining a career.

Freezing your eggs is a great option but the sad reality is: how many women can afford it?

V. de Bheal,

It’s a lie that most women can have it all – sacrifices always have to be made. If you want a successful career, you have to devote a huge amount of time to it and it will most likely get in the way of finding the perfect mate. And if you’re desperate for children, it’s a sad fact that they will very probably get in the way of a career.

Innovations such as eggfreezing just muddy the waters – in most cases a mother in her late 40s will not have the same vitality for the most important years of a child’s life as one in her 20s.

Unfortunately, unless you’re supremely gifted or really rich, most women will have to choose between children or career.

J. McLean,
