BOWLS: Scottish hopes came to an end at the World Indoor Championship in Norfolk yesterday as Darren Burnett bowed out in the semi-finals.
The Arbroath policeman was bothered by an injured back as he was comfortably beaten 8-7, 10-5 by young Englishman Mark Dawes.
Burnett (right) was the only previous champion to reach the last four and there will be a new name on the trophy this year as Englishman Robert Paxton beat compatriot Wayne Willgress in the other semi.
BOXING: Undefeated Edinburgh super lightweight Jason Easton hopes to emerge from stablemate Josh Taylor’s shadow with a little help from the man himself.
Taylor, who returns to action against Mexican Humberto Soto at the SSE Hydro on March 3, relinquished his Commonwealth title to give Easton his big chance.
Consequently, Easton, 26, will challenge Sunderland’s Glenn Foot for the vacant crown on the undercard of the Cyclone Promotions bill. ‘It’s great Josh has got to the level he is at and that he has vacated the title to give me the opportunity,’ said Easton.
CRICKET: India won an eventful third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg as the three-match series finished 2-1 to the hosts. After play was delayed by a dangerous wicket and then a damp outfield, India recorded a 63-run victory after bowling South Africa out for 177.
DARTS: Gary Anderson will play Gerwyn Price today for a place in the semi-finals of the PDC Masters event in Milton Keynes. The Scot comfortably beat Benito van de Pas 10-4 in the last 16, while the Welshman saw off Daryl Gurney 10-7 in their first-round clash.
