CARDIFF LOWS...
1972 — Wales 35 Scotland 12
There were some big beatings for Scotland in Wales in the early part of the 20th century, but this loss at Cardiff Arms Park was a rare thumping of a Scottish side that had beaten England twice the year before and would go on to defeat France and England — Ireland were not involved for political reasons. Scotland led 12-10 just after half-time but with Barry John and Gareth Edwards pulling the strings, Wales’ world-class backline blew Scotland away with four tries from Edwards (2), Roy Bergiers and John Taylor.
2006 — Wales 28 Scotland 18
Scotland-Wales games and red cards have almost become synonymous with Stuart Hogg suffering the humiliation in 2014, but when lock Scott Murray was sent off in 2006 the game turned inexorably Wales’ way and would lead to a period of Welsh domination of the fixture — with nine wins in the next 11 meetings.
2010 — Wales 31 Scotland 24
No defeats came with the gut-wrenching pain of this devastating carnage at the Millennium Stadium. Scotland had played some wonderful rugby but were cruelly cut down, then hit by an explosive finale where Wales scored 17 points in the final seven minutes sealed their fate. Chris Paterson suffered a lacerated kidney on his 100th cap, Rory Lamont sustained ankle ligament damage and Thom Evans suffered a career-ending spinal injury.
