1982 — Wales 18 Scotland 34

Scotland had not won in Wales since 1962 and the hosts had not lost to another home nation here since 1968. But Andy Irvine’s side ripped up the records with a glorious display that brought five tries — scored by Jim Calder, Jim Renwick, Jim Pollock, Derek White and David Johnston — and was said to have fuelled the confidence for the team who returned and claimed a key victory in the 1984 Grand Slam campaign.

1990 — Wales 9 Scotland 13

Wales holds a unique magic for Scottish teams as victories here have been stepping stones to the three Grand Slams – in 1925, 1984 and 1990. This affair was largely uneventful with Scotland’s defence the key. Damien Cronin was the sole try-scorer for Scotland with Craig Chalmers kicking three penalty goals to win. Victory over England two weeks later secured the Grand Slam for Scotland. The Scots also won in Wales in 1996 but lost the Championship on the final day to England.

2002 — Wales 22 Scotland 27

This win will be remembered for many things; hooker Gordon Bulloch scoring two tries, Brendan Laney slotting 14 points, Gregor Townsend overtaking Scott Hastings as Scotland’s most-capped player and the legendary BBC commentator Bill McLaren retiring to a standing ovation. But it now stands as a lonesome reminder in the past 16 years of Scotland’s last taste of victory in the Welsh capital.
