MURRAY LEAVES IT LATE BEFORE GETTING BRIGHTON OUT OF JAIL

-

GLENN MURRAY put a week to forget behind him after scoring an injury-time winner as Brighton beat Middlesbrough 1-0.

The striker, who was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of tax fraud, had only been on the park for 18 minutes after replacing Temer Hemed in the 72nd minute and did not know much about the incident leading to the only goal of the match, as Boro’s George Friend struck the 34-year-old on the knee with a clearance.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton said: ‘As we got towards the end of the game, it looked like it was going to be a replay, which was something both managers would not have wanted — so I’m really delighted to have got the winner.’

Leicester kept up their impressive run with a 5-1 victory at Peterborough.

First-half goals from Fousseni Diabate and Kelechi Iheanacho (2) put the Foxes in control before Andrew Hughes gave the hosts hope after the break. Diabate and Wilfred Ndidi scored in the closing stages to secure their progress.

Jack Stephens scored the only goal of the game as Southampton saw off Watford 1-0.

Huddersfield and Swansea both face replays after struggling to 1-1 draws at home to Birmingham and away against Notts County, respectively.

Nottingham Forest, who knocked out the holders Arsenal in the last round, are out of the Cup after a 2-1 loss at Championship rivals Hull City.
