MURTY HOPES SMUGNESS IS THING OF PAST

-

Murty has warned that any smugness at securing a third success over the Dons should have been swiftly binned in the Ibrox dressing room on Wednesday night.

‘If anything could be levelled at us it’s the fact that maybe we have had a bit of self-satisfaction when we have done well,’ said Murty.

‘We can’t have that in the second half of the season. We must have the mentality where we are going to get better every single game.

‘You saw a glimpse on Wednesday of what this team can become. We simply have to push standards up to a level where we’re satisfied — and we haven’t been satisfied in certain games.

‘I want every single team from now on to see the Rangers team that performed against Celtic and Aberdeen as a minimum standard.

‘We can improve from what we’ve done previously but the intensity, level, work-rate and desire showed must be our minimum level.

‘If we do that, hopefully our quality will shine through in the games that are tighter.’

Murty gave four new signings — Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin — debuts against the Dons.

He could hand ex-Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty a dream first outing today.

Murty said: ‘I talked before about attributes rather than positions for recruitment.

‘There’s a young man who’s just walked in the door who has that very desire, that mentality.’
