THE NEED FOR SPEED

-

We hurtle down the track at anything up to 90mph. Even the ‘slower’ tracks, you’re usually travelling at between 75 and 80mph.

When I first learned skeleton in Calgary, there were five and six-year-olds sliding about and I thought: ‘If they can do it, so can I.’

You obviously don’t go 90mph in the first lesson in the same way you wouldn’t start learning to drive a car on the motorway.

You start with small steps, or halfway down the track, and build yourself up. Eventually, you don’t even think about it. It’s part of your day job.
