HOW DO I KNOW IF IT’S WORKED?

-

WE LIKE to joke that you’ll know from the look on your GP’s face when they see you after a year of immense effort and considerable weight loss. But this is the crucial part – has the diet worked? Have you reversed your diabetes?

There are two ways to work this out:

Wait until your next diabetes review – you should have one every six months – and if you are truly in remission, your blood glucose reading, also known as HbA1c, will prove it.

Check yourself with a blood sugar meter. If you don’t already own one, they’re available at high street chemists and cost as little as £20. They involve a regular finger-prick test to draw a tiny amount of blood which is then placed on a strip to be tested. If your blood sugar remains low, and stable, you’ll know your diabetes is under control.
