I’m glad I had my babies in my 40s
In her column last week, Sam Taylor encouraged women not to leave it until their 40s to try to get pregnant, but I don’t think they should be pressured into believing that time is running out. They are adults and will know when the time is right for them – as I did.
I had my first child at 42 and my second at 46. I was ready to end my career and financially able to stop work to give 100 per cent to my children.
I got pregnant very easily. I was fit and healthy and there were no problems. The children gave my husband and me a new lease of life – the travelling, swimming and cycling we did we wouldn’t have done without them.
My daughters are now 23 and 19 – independent, fit, confident women. The eldest is studying for a master’s degree and wants to travel. The youngest has a job with animals, which she loves.
Yes, I do get mistaken for a grandma, but who cares – we laugh it off!
I am now 66 and, God willing, will see out another 20 years – plenty of time for grandchildren, if it happens. S. A. Platts, Burton-on-Trent
