Secrets of Copperfield ‘magic’ laid bare in court

- From Hugo Daniel IN LAS VEGAS

SUPERSTAR magician David Copperfield had to watch as his stage secrets were revealed in court last week during a case brought by a British tourist.

Gavin Cox claims he was severely injured when ‘all hell broke loose’ after he was called up on stage by the illusionist.

Londoner Mr Cox, 57, claims he slipped and suffered brain damage after being randomly selected to take part in the Copperfield show.

His lawyer Benedict Morelli told a Las Vegas court Mr Cox was one of 13 audience members picked to ‘disappear’ from a box and reappear at the back of the theatre. The complicated route they took from the box, going outside the building before arriving at the back of the auditorium, was an ‘accident waiting to happen’, said the lawyer. Mr Cox fell while having to move very quickly, the court heard.

Copperfield’s lawyer denied liability. The star, right, is set to testify when the case resumes.
