Clown Prince William... the ‘virtual star’ of the FA Cup
IT’S looking increasingly unlikely that overstretched Prince William will be able to pay even a passing visit to the FA Cup Final at Wembley – but he may have found an ingenious solution.
I hear that football-mad Wills is exploring the possibility of appearing in a ‘virtual Wills’ skit to be screened at Wembley on May 19 – while the man himself is busy with duties at his brother’s wedding as well as coping with the demands of a newborn baby.
Sources tell me a top videographer has entered into talks with the FA about making the short film, to be beamed to 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium – and to millions watching around the world. Plans are not yet concrete but William – the FA’s president – is said to have been offered script ideas to help him record a humorous nod to family demands on his time when he would otherwise have been enjoying the match and presenting the cup, as he has for the past three years.
The winners of the match are due to be crowned at around 7.30pm, by which time Prince William should be well into the lengthy celebrations following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, when William will no doubt play a key role.
And just to keep the pressure on, the imminent birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child will mean even more demands on William’s time.
My source said: ‘One idea is that Prince William could record a video message to be played on the big screens. A wellknown production company is working on the idea that he will record something to be beamed as the cup is presented.
‘The aim is for William to apologise he can’t be there and somehow congratulate the winning team virtually, while trying to get some humour in it. Nothing like this has been done in a Cup Final before.’
Last night the FA and Kensington Palace declined to comment.
