Hooper can’t wait for round two as Aussies end Ireland’s winning run

-

MICHAEL HOOPER admitted he cannot wait for the second Test in this threematch series after Australia brought an end to Ireland’s recordbreaking run in Brisbane.

The Wallabies skipper said: ‘They got around us a bit and were good with their chip.

‘We were disciplined. We only gave them three penalties (second half) and not within range of the posts. It’s great to get that win against the No2 team in the world — (we) can’t wait until next week.’

Melbourne plays host on Sunday, where the Irish will no doubt be looking to bounce back.

The tourists trailed 8-6 at the break as Bernard Foley’s penalty and 34th-minute try cancelled out two Joey Carbery penalties.

On the hour mark, Carbery struck with the boot again to give Ireland a one-point lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

However, in the final ten minutes, Foley again found his mark with the boot, adding another penalty and kicking the extras from David Pocock’s try to end Ireland’s 12-match, 15-month winning run. WALES had a convincing victory over Argentina in the first Test in San Juan.

James Davies crossed for Wales with a converted try after Argentina got off the mark with Nicolas Sanchez’s penalty.

George North added a second try before the half hour, with Rhys Patchell getting the extras before the fly-half slotted a penalty for a 17-3 half-time lead.

Patchell added three points before Tomas Lezana’s late converted try gave the Pumas hope — but another Welsh penalty sealed victory.
