Which players from Scottish top flight are joining Mikael?
TOM ROGIC (Celtic & Australia,
right): Dubbed ‘The Magic Man’ by Brendan Rodgers (above), Australia will need all of Rogic’s wizardry if they are to progress from a tough section featuring France, Peru and Denmark.
DEDRYCK BOYATA (Celtic &
Belgium): Unlikely to see a lot of game time but deserves acclaim simply for making it into a squad featuring the defensive depth of Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Vermaelen, Vincent Kompany and Toby Alderweireld.
CRISTIAN GAMBOA (Celtic & Costa Rica): Has failed to dislodge Mikael Lustig in two years at Parkhead but remains a first choice at right-back for his country. Impressed at the last World Cup in Brazil and will use Russia as a shop window.
BRUNO ALVES (Rangers &
Portugal): Had an unimpressive first season at Ibrox, but was deemed good enough for the Euro 2016 winners. Now 36 but just four short of 100 caps for his country.
JAMIE MACLAREN (Hibernian &
Australia): Neil Lennon would love to convert the Darmstadt striker’s loan into a transfer but his involvement in Russia will not help lower the price tag. Prolific in Edinburgh but yet to score for his country. KARI ARNASON (Aberdeen & Iceland): Won’t be back at Pittodrie after failing to shine in his second spell with the Dons but remains a pillar for his country. Starred at Euro 2016 and will relish going up against Argentina and Lionel Messi.
