Blenheim heir live streamed visit...as friends bid £50 to ‘upskirt Melania’
AS A lavish banquet for Donald Trump was being held at Blenheim Palace, the heir to the magnificent stately home thought it only fitting to film the event on his phone.
But unfortunately for George Spencer-Churchill, the Marquess of Blandford, his live Instagram stream of the evening became an opportunity for his highsociety friends to make a series of ill-judged jokes.
Made In Chelsea star Charlie Mills suggested: ‘Zoom in on Melania’s a*** for me.’
Bloodstock agent Sam Sangster, son of racehorse owner Robert Sangster, quipped: ‘£50 for a molina upskirt shot’ – not even managing to spell the name of the First Lady correctly.
A third friend, with the username bennstrange, chipped in: ‘There are dirty communists standing outside of your house – shoot them!’
The black-tie dinner on Thursday night, which was packed with politicians and leaders from the business community, was an opportunity for Theresa May to press her case for a new trade deal with the US after Brexit.
But for the 25-year-old marquess, who has played polo with Prince Harry, it was the perfect occasion to entertain any of his 3,900 Instagram followers who might have been watching.
Standing among a large group of guests dressed in black tie and lavish evening dresses, the marquess began his live stream as the Trumps arrived at the stately home in Oxfordshire.
At one point, the marquess swivelled the camera around to give his delighted followers a selfie – but, with the Trumps posing next to the Mays on the steps in the film, some of his friends appeared unsure whether he should be filming.
‘Only one on your phone,’ remarked a user called fredfb50, while another added: ‘Dude, you are on BBC as the only guy with the phone.’
Although sources at the event said phones were not prohibited, George’s video
came to an abrupt halt – as if the phone had been snatched out of his hand or else stuffed in a pocket.
But the marquess returned to Instagram the follopwing evening to share an image of Donald Trump’s helicopter outside the palace walls, captioning it: ‘Once in a lifetime.’
A second picture showed the US President signing what appeared to be the Blenheim Palace visitor book, while two more pictures showed the Trumps and Mays standing together outside the palace walls.
The marquess is the son of Jamie Blandford, the 12th Duke of Marlborough.
The 25-year-old will one day inherit Blenheim Palace alongside an estimated £100 million fortune, and was named last year by Tatler as one of the ‘10 most eligible people in the land’.
Last night, he did not respond to requests to comment but his friends stressed that the aristocrat had done ‘nothing wrong’.
Ben, who made the remark about the protesters on the marquess’s feed, last night defended his comments as a drunken joke.
He said: ‘I am a nice person but I was upset with everyone talking about the protesters.
‘They are trying to damage our relationship with our ally.’
