Even in defeat, Williams shows she’s a great

WHAT a remarkable performance by Serena Williams in getting to the final. It was a miracle given the lack of matches she has played. She is once again proving she is the greatest of all time.

She will be disappointed but should be really proud of her effort. This has got to give her confidence. As long as she wants to keep on playing, combining it with being a mother, there is no reason why she can’t win more Slams. You would think that at the US Open, if motivated, she has got a great chance because she has another couple of months to prepare.

Williams was definitely a little bit off yesterday, but I thought Angelique Kerber played a great match. She was so solid.

The bottom line is, Kerber’s back. After she won two Slams in 2016 she didn’t really kick on and you didn’t fancy her to win the big ones, but she has done that now and maybe this will be a chance for her to really re-establish herself.

You keep looking for someone to really get a hold of the women’s game and there is no reason why that can’t be Kerber.
