Parents’ fury as Harrods opens grotto only to its big spenders

MANY children hoping to see Father Christmas at Harrods will be disappointed this year – the store has closed its grotto to all but the biggest spenders.

The grotto now is ‘invitation only’, with selected customers being sent an email asking them to purchase a £20 ticket per child on entry, which includes an ‘exclusive gift’.

One mother, who claimed she has spent around £12,000 at Harrods in the past year, said that she ‘was made to feel like c**p’ after staff told her she was not a big enough customer.

She claimed she was told by a member of staff that even those who had spent £15,000 in a year might not qualify.

Harrods declined to reveal what customers would need to spend to be invited to meet Father Christmas.

A Harrods spokesman said: ‘We care hugely about making a visit to the grotto as magical as possible, therefore tickets are extremely limited. Each year, we are overwhelmed by requests for the Harrods grotto experience, which we make every effort to facilitate.

‘Unfortunately, we simply cannot meet the demand.’
