... and he needs a chef for food f it for a king

- By Mike Merritt

HE is known to be very particular – some have said fussy – about his food, while his love of organic produce and farming is no secret.

Prince Charles is seeking a chef to cook for him ‘to the highest standard’ both at home and when he is travelling.

Applicants must have ‘a working knowledge of organic food’.

The successful chef de partie will be based in London but will have to travel around the UK ‘as required’ – which is likely to include the prince’s frequent trips to Scotland.

The heir to the throne – who has the title of Duke of Rothesay when north of the Border – is a regular visitor to his home at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire, and to Dumfries House in Ayrshire. He also spends a week every August at the Castle of Mey and stays at the Palace of Holyroodhouse when in Edinburgh.

The job advert on the prince’s website states: ‘The successful candidate will assist with the planning and preparation of meals for events, formal dinners, receptions and functions, and liaise with the head chef on menus and budgets. Candidates must have a pride and passion for the industry, as well as a good understanding and working knowledge of organic food, or an interest to learn.

‘Experience of menu planning and working to a time schedule is essential.’
