Chocolate cake whips its rivals

THE nation’s favourite birthday treat is chocolate cake – even though half of us have never made one.

Some 44 per cent of Britons have never baked a cake, according to a survey, and 36 per cent can’t name the key ingredients in a sponge cake – eggs, butter, sugar and flour.

Asked which type of cake they would like on their birthday, 19 per cent said chocolate, 15 per cent opted for a Victoria sponge and ten per cent said coffee, the poll by organic flour brand Dove Farm found.
