RAF policy is fat lot of use

-

I read with a mixture of anger and disbelief the article about obesity in the Armed Forces, and that overweight personnel are only retained because of a manpower crisis.

My son spent three years at college to gain a diploma. He worked at the 2012 London Olympics in security and then decided to apply to join the RAF Police. He went to evening classes to get a better grade in his English and spent time at our local RAF base to see what they did. He got 80 per cent in his aptitude test, but when he had an interview he was rejected as ‘he didn’t know enough about the planes’. Is it any wonder there is a manpower crisis if applicants are turned away like this? Name and address supplied

What use is a fat soldier who can’t even see his own toes, let alone touch them? C. Field, Mellieha, Malta
