Edmund beats Gasquet to set up final with Monfils
TENNIS: Kyle Edmund will play his second ATP Tour final after beating Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-4 at the European Open in Antwerp.
The British No 1 served 16 aces on his way to victory and now faces another Frenchman, crowdpleasing Gael Monfils, who beat Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-4.
Edmund later tweeted: ‘Into the @ EuroTennisOpen final! Focused.’
The 23-year-old, who had been handed a walkover into the last four when his quarterfinal opponent Ilya Ivashka withdrew with a thigh injury, broke Gasquet in the second game of the first set on his way to a 3-0 lead.
The second set then saw him break in the third game as he sealed the win.
SNOOKER: Stuart Bingham battled back to defeat Scotland’s Stephen Maguire to reach the final of the English Masters in Crawley.
The 2015 world champion trailed 3-2 but recovered to win 6-3. Bingham will play Mark Davis in the final after he stunned Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-1.
