Po­lice ar­rest driver af­ter crash that killed biker

PO­LICE have ar­rested a man af­ter a fa­tal crash in­volv­ing a mo­tor­cy­cle and a car.

Of­fi­cers in­ves­ti­gat­ing the tragedy on the A725 East Kil­bride Ex­press­way said the car ap­peared to have been trav­el­ling on the wrong side of the road be­fore the col­li­sion around 6.45am yes­ter­day.

It is un­der­stood the male biker died at the scene. Emer­gency ser­vices were quickly in at­ten­dance and the road was closed in both di­rec­tions for de­tailed in­ves­ti­ga­tion and re­cov­ery work to take place.

A Po­lice Scot­land spokesman con­firmed the male driver of the car had been ar­rested be­fore be­ing taken to Hairmyres Hospi­tal for treat­ment, al­though his in­juries are not thought to be life-threat­en­ing.

She added: ‘We would urge any­one who may have wit­nessed the in­ci­dent to con­tact us im­me­di­ately to help with our in­quiries.’

The biker was named lo­cally last night as 24-year-old Allan Ni­chol­son, 24. Ap­peal­ing on Face­book for wit­nesses, his twin Pamela said: ‘The faster this case closes, the sooner I can put my brother to rest.’
