Police arrest driver after crash that killed biker
POLICE have arrested a man after a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a car.
Officers investigating the tragedy on the A725 East Kilbride Expressway said the car appeared to have been travelling on the wrong side of the road before the collision around 6.45am yesterday.
It is understood the male biker died at the scene. Emergency services were quickly in attendance and the road was closed in both directions for detailed investigation and recovery work to take place.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the male driver of the car had been arrested before being taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
She added: ‘We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact us immediately to help with our inquiries.’
The biker was named locally last night as 24-year-old Allan Nicholson, 24. Appealing on Facebook for witnesses, his twin Pamela said: ‘The faster this case closes, the sooner I can put my brother to rest.’
