Independence without Europe

The Scottish Mail on Sunday - - News -

FOR all her protests against leaving the EU, Nicola Sturgeon seems to have abandoned her party’s long-standing goal of independence in Europe. In a press conference about the Withdrawal Agreement last week, the First Minister declined to be flanked by one Saltire and one EU flag, being pictured instead between two Saltires. Then, in a bid to add weight to her claim that uncertainty over Brexit was pushing Scotland towards independence, she took care to be pictured with a portrait of Robert Burns. But as Burns might have warned her: ‘There is no such uncertainty as a sure thing.’
