Does wearing a bra in bed stop your breasts from sagging with age?

Consultant plastic surgeon Nigel Mercer says: ‘As you age your skin loses elasticity, and skin lacking elasticity stretches still further if not supported.

‘The average breast weighs 300g to 400g so this is the weight of the unsupported mass that will flop down into your armpits as you turn over in bed at night. There’s no medical danger in not wearing a bra at night but many women do so for comfort – but it also provides about eight hours of extra support for breasts that already may be sagging.

‘Add the fact that breasts get bigger as women age, and it does seem common sense to wear a bra in bed at night to stop further sagging taking place.’
