Had a good night ladies? Penny and Shirley full of Xmas spirit!

- By Katie Hind

THEY laughed, they giggled and they tottered on their high heels – classic signs that it must have been a heck of a party!

Leading the way with the Christmas cheer was Penny Lancaster, as she emerged in the early hours yesterday from a star-studded bash in North London. Also at the party – and clearly having had just as much fun – were Dame Shirley Bassey, Dame Barbara Windsor and Liz Hurley.

Male guests at the bash, hosted by tycoon Evgeny Lebedev, owner of the London Evening Standard newspaper, included Penny’s rocker husband Sir Rod Stewart and TV presenter Stephen Fry, out for the evening with husband Elliott Spencer.

Penny, wearing a short, tight-fitting silver dress and high heels, roared with laughter as she gingerly navigated a flight of stairs.

Dame Shirley pulled up the hem of her sparkling black dress and almost seemed to scream in terror as she was assisted down the steps.

In contrast, Liz was probably less worried about falling down than her thigh-skimming white dress riding up.

Dame Barbara – who revealed in May that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was making a rare public appearance – was in typically cheery mood as she posed for photographs with husband Scott Mitchell.

Other celebrity guests included former Prime Minister David Cameron, actress Anna Friel, pop singer Ellie Goulding and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
