Neilson’s rage after being sent to stand

- By Joe Gardner

ROBBIE NEILSON was left furious last night as he was sent to the stand during his side’s draw at Cappielow, and insists he will fight any repercussions of his dismissal.

With six minutes until the final whistle, referee David Munro removed the Dundee United manager from his technical area after he shouted in the direction of the official when Morton were awarded a free-kick instead of a United corner.

‘The referee is 60 yards away,’ said Neilson, who claimed he was shouting at one of his own players.

‘The linesman is 40 yards away and he’s said I directed it at the referee. I asked him a few questions at full-time which he refused to answer.

‘We’ll see what happens in the next couple of days, but I’ll definitely be fighting it because for me it wasn’t acceptable. It shouldn’t have happened, and I think the referee got caught up in it.’

Fraser Aird picked out Frederic Frans with a deep free-kick after 31 minutes to give United the lead. The Belgian rose highest and powered his header over Derek Gaston and into the net.

However, with 12 minutes remaining, Michael Tidser swung a free-kick into the box which the Slovak came to punch clear, but it bounced off his glove and allowed Gregor Buchanan to head in.

‘We definitely deserved our goal and I enjoyed the game,’ said Morton manager Jonatan Johansson.
