TWO top press awards for Mail on Sunday’s writers
TWO writers on The Mail on Sunday have scooped top honours in this year’s prestigious British Journalism Awards.
Personal Finance Editor Jeff Prestridge won the Business, Finance and Economics Journalism award for articles including his ‘broken loyalty’ campaign against insurers giving discounts to new customers while increasing premiums for those who faithfully renew their policies.
The judges said: ‘Jeff Prestridge combined his deep understanding of business with sharp instincts for popular campaigning journalism to fight for consumers over scandalous sharp practice by insurers who penalise customers for being loyal.’
Special Correspondent Ian Birrell won the Popular Journalism award for reports such as a legal battle by Charlotte Caldwell to get her son Billy prescribed cannabisbased medicine she believed would save his life.
The judges said the report ‘brought together all the tools of popular journalism to help change the law, change the country and save lives’.
The Daily Mail won Campaign of the Year for its successful fight to give Afghan interpreters for British forces the right to live in the UK. The awards are made annually by media trade publication Press Gazette.
