Discovered in China by plantsman Roy Lancaster in the early Eighties, this deciduous species boasts pale yellow flowers with a pink tinge in winter.

An evergreen shrub that was introduced in the swinging Sixties with arching branches clothed with tiny golden leaves.

First grown in Britain in the early 1900s, the box-leaved honeysuckl­e is a dwarf evergreen, perfect for clipping into low hedges.

4 LONICERA X PURPUSII ‘WINTER BEAUTY’

Developed by Hillier Nurseries, with clusters of white, heavily scented flowers on bare branches from early winter.

5 LONICERA INVOLUCRAT­A VAR. LEDEBOURII

An exotic-looking, deciduous variety from the US with orange-yellow flowers in spring followed by shiny black berries. Also has persistent red bracts (below).
