Tips for safe internet shopping

ASK a friend or relative whether the website you are shopping on, or the item you want to buy, looks genuine. They may spot something you don’t.

CHECK contact details for an online company. If it’s a mobile number or an email address only, be wary.

USE payment platforms such as PayPal, Shieldpay and Amazon Pay – never be persuaded to pay via bank transfer as there is no protection.

PAY by credit card if items are worth more than £100 as this gives the best protection under consumer law.

READ customer reviews of online retailers via websites such as Trustpilot and Feefo.

NEVER trust a deal sent by email or click on links in the message. Visit the retailer’s website separately.
