CARDIFF FIGHTBACK COMES UP JUST SHORT AT HORNETS

-

WATFORD held off a spirited Cardiff comeback to win 3-2 at Vicarage Road.

Goals from Gerard Delofeu, Jose Holebas and Domingos Quinas put the hosts seemingly in control with 22 minutes left to play.

However, quickfire efforts in the 80th and 82nd minutes from Junior Hoilett and then Bobby Reid gave Cardiff hope but the Bluebirds just could not find a leveller.

Relieved Watford boss Javi Gracia said: ‘We dominated the first 70 minutes. We created a lot of chances and we could have got a better victory today.

‘The last games we have played well, but we deserved the win. It is important for the players and fans. All of them deserve the victory.’

Wolves recorded a third consecutive top-flight victory for the first time since 1980 with a 2-0 success over Bournemouth, Raul Jimenez and Ivan Cavaleiro finding the net.

Newcastle climbed up to 14th in the table as Salomon Rondon hit the only goal of the game in a 1-0 success at Huddersfield.

Luka Milivojevic was the hero for Crystal Palace as the Selhurst Park captain’s strike secured a 1-0 win over Leicester to move the Eagles out of the bottom three.
