DETERMINED DARIAN VOWS TO STAY WITH ACCIES

- By Fraser Mackie

DARIAN MACKINNON has revealed how offers from rival clubs to treble his wages stood no chance of breaking the bond with Hamilton.

The veteran midfielder intends playing for two more seasons after this campaign before moving into full-time coaching.

That transition, ideally, would take place with Accies where he and Dougie Imrie are taking training sessions with the club’s youth talent.

‘I’m not going anywhere,’ said MacKinnon, whose latest deal expires at the end of the season.

‘Three Scottish clubs have tried to sign me since I came here but I’ve made the right decision staying. I’m not going to leave now. If I was going to leave it would have been when I was younger.

‘I could have earned more money elsewhere. The season we beat Dundee United I had a cast-iron offer to treble my money but I never went. The offer was there whether we stayed up or not and Accies knew about it at the time.

‘But they didn’t want me to leave and I, 100 per cent, didn’t want to go.

‘I just feel that I’ve been part of this club for so long now that I want to stay here until I finish playing. They gave me my chance, so I just want to show them some loyalty back.

‘Everyone talks about money but happiness is important, too. I’m well looked after.’
