Tunnel vision threat to Trump

-

PRESIDENT Donald J Trump’s business acumen is such that had he invested his inherited fortune in a savings fund, he could be worth almost three times as much as he is now estimated to be worth.

So perhaps it is only fitting that the author of The Art of the Deal has lived out ‘The Art of the Cavein’ and collapsed in his fight with Congress – and will now find the money to pay US Government employees for the next three weeks. He is at least consistent in his claims being hollow.

What then? In his ridiculous efforts to build a border wall with Mexico, Mr Trump is digging a tunnel for his presidency from which he is unlikely to escape.

His successful formula so far has been to make a populist assertion followed by dramatic action. Now he is running out of options, other than holding summits with Kim Jong-un to discuss the promised denuclearisation that has yet to happen.

He doesn’t seem able to deal with inaction and unpopularity. Perhaps boredom is a bigger threat to his presidency than any bid for impeachment.
