Joyrider who killed Scots dad is jailed for four years

- By Sally Rose

A TEENAGE joyrider must serve at least four years in jail for killing a Scottish dad in a hit-and-run in Australia.

Keith Stevens, 33, originally from Forfar, was riding home on his motorcycle when he was struck by a 17-year-old driving a stolen BMW in Melbourne.

He was dragged under the car for almost 100 yards before the teenager stopped.

Mr Stevens suffered burns to 80 per cent of his body after his bike caught fire.

He also had internal injuries and multiple fractures.

The driver, who is now 18 and cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted a number of charges.

Mr Stevens emigrated to Australia around 11 years ago and had a partner and a son.

He died on November 9, 2017 – the day after the hit-and-run – when his life support machine was switched off.

An online campaign raised more than £3,000 to help family in Scotland fly to Australia.

In a statement, his relatives described him as a ‘gentle giant’.
