Jewish rant MP is let back into Labour fold

- By Gareth Rose

A FORMER Scottish Labour MP who was suspended following a bitter rant against the Jewish community has been reinstated.

Jim Sheridan wrote on social media that he had lost ‘respect and empathy for the Jewish community’, which he accused of aligning with ‘Blairite plotters’ to damage the party.

The one-time Paisley and Renfrewshire North MP was suspended last August, but it is understood Scottish Labour has now accepted his ‘sincere apology’ and he faces no further action.

His reinstatement has further angered those in the party who believe the leadership has failed to crack down on anti-Semitism. One of them said: ‘Labour members are absolutely horrified at this decision, and long-serving activists are considering quitting the party in disgust.’

A Labour Party spokesman said: ‘The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.’
