EVER WONDER WHY...

-

Some babies are born with really thick hair?

ALL babies are born with some hair – called lanugo – but this often sheds a month before the birth because pregnancy hormones that accelerate hair growth diminish. The lanugo is eventually replaced with adult hair. But some babies with a certain genetic make-up are born with particularly pigmented and thick lanugo. This is common in babies of Middle Eastern or Indian heritage. A fair-skinned baby and a dark-haired baby may have the same number of hairs, but increased pigmentation will make the latter’s hair appear thicker.
