Business is booming at Cherie Blair’s law firm
BUSINESS is booming at Cherie Blair’s law firm, its latest figures show.
Accounts just filed reveal that Omnia Strategy, founded by the wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2011, had net assets attributable to members of £2.7million, up from just £559,000 the previous year.
Cash in hand and in the bank rose from £386,789 to £2.3million in the year ending April 30, 2018.
Omnia, which has offices in London and Washington, says it specialises ‘in dispute prevention and resolution around the globe’ adding: ‘Our firm is committed to achieving our clients’ objectives no matter the size, complexity or nature of the challenge.’
Omnia’s relaunched website describes how its ‘lean model and flexible fee structures mean we are consistently more competitive than other firms while maintaining impeccable standards of client service and an exceptional success rate’.
But the firm, led by the barrister Cherie, is less effusive when it comes to talking about customers. A spokesman said the firm did not comment on ‘our clients, our business or our accounts’.
Reports have previously suggested that Omnia has worked for the Albanian and Kazakh governments, though the firm has never confirmed this.
Earlier this month, Omnia represented the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and the Corporate Responsibility Coalition (Core) in the Supreme Court in a case against Vedanta Resources and Konkola Copper Mines.
Vedanta and Konkola are defending a legal action brought by more than 1,800 Zambians who say Vedanta polluted a river in Zambia used for drinking, bathing, irrigation and care of livestock, leading to sickness and lost crops.
The ICJ and Core provided submissions to support a Court of Appeal ruling that Vedanta owed claimants a duty of care.
Also on Omnia’s board is Sofia Wellesley, wife of singer James Blunt and grandchild of the eighth Duke of Wellington.
