Stewart telling lies, says Levein

- GARY KEOWN

CRAIG LEVEIN ramped up his war of words with Michael Stewart last night by branding the TV pundit and former Hearts midfielder a liar and demanding a public apology.

Levein and Stewart have clashed down the years and exchanged fire again this week after the BBC and BT Sport analyst had criticised the Tynecastle boss for hauling striker David Vanecek off after half an hour of the home loss to Dundee and lambasting his fitness levels.

Stewart then took to Twitter on Friday to accuse Levein of trying to get him removed from his role as a broadcaster and that has sparked an angry response.

‘My light-hearted banter with Mr Stewart has suddenly not become light hearted when he starts telling lies,’ said Levein after yesterday’s 2-0 home league win over St Johnstone. ‘So I am waiting for an apology.

‘When he said that I’d made an attempt for him to lose his job or try and get him sacked, that’s simply not true. And I have that in writing from the BBC.’
