Dons star McKenna facing more time on the sidelines
DEREK McINNES admitted Scott McKenna could miss more time with hamstring trouble after limping off in yesterday’s draw against Kilmarnock.
The defender suffered a strain late in the second half and was replaced by Tommie Hoban on his return from five months out following shoulder surgery.
McKenna missed four games earlier this season with a hamstring injury sustained in the opening league game of the campaign against Rangers.
Steven Gerrard’s men are due back at Pittodrie a week on Wednesday — a contest the Scotland international could now miss.
Aberdeen travel to Stenhousemuir for a Scottish Cup replay in midweek then visit Easter Road next Saturday to face Hibernian.
McInnes said: ‘I imagine Scott will be out on Tuesday and a doubt for the next few games, but it doesn’t seem to be as bad as his previous injury.
‘He has a bit of tightness in his hamstring. Fortunately, we have Tommie back and Mark Reynolds will get a game this week. Michael Devlin will return in about 10 days.’
Graeme Shinnie saw out the 90 minutes despite being on the receiving end of what referee Nick Walsh deemed a red-card foul by Kris Boyd.
The Kilmarnock substitute was sent off eight minutes from time, but even the Aberdeen bench felt the crime merited only a caution.
‘My first thought was a yellow card,’ said McInnes.
Steve Clarke was content that Kilmarnock finished a busy week back in action with four points from six against their top-four rivals.
‘It’s been a good week for us,’ he said. ‘It was a scrappy game and maybe that was because both teams had to play three games in a week after the winter shutdown.’
