Top of the Scots...f irst, second and third in charts

- By Sally Rose

SCOTS have landed the first three spots in the official singles chart for the first time in pop history.

Someone You Loved, a moving track by Lewis Capaldi, right, has remained at number one for the fifth week running, and has continued to hold off a challenge from Calvin Harris.

Dumfries-born dance star Harris is at number two with his song Giant, featuring Rag’n’Bone Man. Both Scottish acts have been engaged in a battle for the top spot. Earlier this month, the Scots pair became the first acts from north of the Border to have taken the top two positions since November 2011. Back then, the top two positions in the charts were held by Emeli Sande after she sang on Professor Green’s Read All About It and Harris, who featured on Rihanna’s We Found Love.

But in a record-smashing move, on Friday Glaswegian Tom Walker climbed to number three with his single Just You And I, which is featured on his chart-topping album What A Time To Be Alive.

Number one Capaldi, 22, from Bathgate, West Lothian, has shot to fame this year.

He has become known not only for his heartfelt lyrics and unconventional pop songs but for his cheeky sense of humour, which he often shares with his fans on social media. And although Harris is currently jostling for the top position, he remains the most successful Scot to ever grace the charts, securing the most number ones this decade.

Among the eight top hits he held in the past ten years are Dance Wiv Me, which he released with rapper Dizzee Rascal, and most recently Promises, which he collaborated on with Sam Smith.

He has had ten number ones in total, after shooting to fame with Acceptable In The 80s in 2007.
