ARMY’S ‘IRON LADY’ GETS TOUGH AS SOLDIERS FAIL DRUG TEST

-

HUNDREDS of soldiers from 6 Regiment, Royal Logistics Corps (6RLC) face extra training after six of them failed a drugs test.

The six who failed the Compulsory Drugs Test (CDT) will also be booted out of the ranks after the Army scrapped its policy of offering second chances to offenders – following a campaign by The Mail on Sunday. The troops from the Yorkshire-based regiment expect to be told this week they must attend anti-drug lectures after a crackdown led by a female senior officer dubbed the Army’s ‘Iron Lady’.

On the orders of Lieutenant Colonel Leila Green, they could also face extra inspections. Lt Col Green is understood to have started the crackdown after 6RLC came near the top of a ‘league of shame’ for units with the most drug users relative to numbers of soldiers in each regiment.

The regiment’s CDT failures are likely to frustrate top brass as they come just a week after the Army’s top officer General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith expressed fury over the recent misbehaviour of squaddies.

Last night, an RLC source said: ‘The boss Lt Col Green is on a mission to stop her soldiers using drugs and if that means taking up our free time with extra parades and anti-drug training, so be it. Given the state of morale in 6RLC, which is already rock bottom, it is a brave move on her part. She’s like the Iron Lady.’

The Mail on Sunday has also learned that the soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, seen shooting at Jeremy Corbyn’s picture during target practice in Afghanistan are to be demoted.
