ADELE and her husband Simon Konecki began preparing for their split months ago, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The superstar singer, who married Konecki in 2016 and has a sixyear-old son, Angelo, with the Eton-educated philanthropist, announced the breakup early yesterday, but began separating their business affairs in February.

Legal documents show Adele, 30, signed over a £500,000 house in Los Angeles to Konecki, whose charity water business is based in the city.

The singer, who has an estimated fortune of £145million, flew into the UK three weeks ago to spend time with her mum, Penny Adkins.

A statement released by her PR team early yesterday announced that Adele and former investment banker Konecki, 44 – who she once described as her ‘perfect man’ – were no longer together.

‘Adele and her partner have separated,’ the statement said. ‘They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.’

The Someone Like You star signed over the £500,000 property in the middle-class Van Nuys suburb, a half-hour drive from the couple’s £10million Beverly Hills mansion, two months ago.

Legal papers show the property changed hands under an ‘intrafamily transfer’, which gifted Konecki the house. The property is the registered base of Mammoth Water Resources, a company owned by Konecki who also runs a charity called Drop4Drop.

The couple were last seen together backstage at Elton John concert in LA on January 25.

Sources insist the separation is ‘unlikely’ to turn nasty. ‘Simon’s not like that. He’s got his own money. His only concern now is that he and Adele remain the best parents they can be to Angelo,’ one insider told The Mail on Sunday.

It is understood that Adele is being comforted by her friends, including Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence with whom she was spotted partying in a New York gay bar in March.

The Tottenham-born singer, who is thought to be recording a new album in New York, has been with Konecki, who is 14 years her senior, since October 2011.

They split their time between their gated Beverly Hills home, a £40 million property in Kensington, West London, and another home in Brighton.

It is believed that the singer plans to base herself in London so she is close to her mother and so Angelo can have a British education.

Highly secretive about her romance with Konecki, Adele only confirmed the pair had married in 2016 when she referred to him as her ‘husband’ on stage at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

During a tearful Album of the Year acceptance speech, she said: ‘My husband, my son, you’re the only reason I do it.’

Despite this, rumours about their rocky relationship have plagued the couple for years. In 2014, it was claimed that Konecki had moved out of their London home and into his bachelor pad in Brighton. Adele eventually responded to the reports on Twitter, writing: ‘Just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays & all the best for 2015! PS Simon & I are still very much together, don’t believe what you read x.’

However, the pair were photographed in June that year having an argument outside London celebrity hotspot Chiltern Firehouse.

In a handful of interviews, Adele has gushed about her love for Konecki who she has credited with helping her recover from vocal cord surgery in 2011.

‘He’s wonderful and he’s proud of me but he doesn’t care about what I do or what other people think,’ she once said.

‘He looks after me. I don’t think I would have gotten through the recovery for my surgery if it hadn’t been for him.’

More recently, the singer spoke of her longing to expand her family. ‘My womb is starting to ache a little bit,’ she said. ‘It’s like, ‘Baby, baby, baby. Need a baby.’ I’m not pregnant. I won’t get pregnant until the end of the tour.’

Konecki was previously married to stylist Clary Fisher. They have a nine-year-old daughter and split in 2010. He met Adele the following year, after reportedly being introduced by Ed Sheeran.

Social media erupted at the news of Adele’s separation from her husband with many fans rejoicing that the split may inspire her to complete her fourth album – the singer’s songs of heartbreak are a hallmark of her multi-million selling 19,21, and 25 albums.

‘Adele and her husband just separated. Music charts, get ready for the world’s greatest breakup album ever... again! #Adele #divorce,’ one fan wrote on Twitter.
