Scots soldier glassed in neck is released from hospital

- By Gerard Couzens

THE Scots soldier critically injured in a Magaluf nightclub incident that led to her Army friend being arrested has been released from hospital.

Sarah Ann Garrity, 22, left Son Espases Hospital in Palma on Friday after more than 24 hours in intensive care and three days on a general ward.

It was not clear yesterday whether the Royal Logistics Corps squaddie had remained in Majorca or had flown back to the UK. Miss Garrity, from Irvine, Ayrshire, told court officials she did not want to press charges against her Army friend Sydney Cole, who was freed from jail and told she could return to Britain.

Cole, who serves with the Adjutant General’s Corps, will continue to be probed by a court in the Majorcan capital Palma on suspicion of wounding her friend with a dangerous weapon, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years.

Witnesses claimed Cole threw a glass at Miss Garrity’s neck. She needed 14 stitches.

But Cole, 19, from Hertfordshire, told a court she threw it at the ground and her friend was wounded by ricocheting glass. State prosecutors have not said whether they will bring charges.
