Airbnb revellers go on the rampage

- By Michael Powell

REVELLERS attacked police trying to shut down an out-ofcontrol party at a house rented out on Airbnb.

Horrified neighbours reported noise and drunken behaviour after more than 200 party-goers descended on the house in Levenshulme, Manchester on Friday night.

Police said the owner was ‘duped’ by people who rented the property through Airbnb.

A recent Mail on Sunday investigation found homes let through the online service are increasingly being turned into ‘pop-up’ brothels and used for huge parties.

Detective Constable Chris Henderson of Greater Manchester Police said: ‘Not only had the party-goers duped the home owner into believing there would be far fewer people at the property, the party got out of hand, they terrified local residents, then reacted with violence towards officers.’

An Airbnb spokesman said: ‘We have zero tolerance for this type of behaviour, have removed the guest from our platform and are providing the host with our full support.’
