Fleabag star will bring new boldness to Bond
It’s not surprising that Bond producers want the scriptwriting talents of Phoebe Waller-Bridge (right), as you revealed last week. Killing Eve is a brilliantly crafted thriller, and Fleabag is a bold, innovative comic masterpiece. Andrew Scott was outstanding as the lovestruck priest in the latter, and its ending was genius. Nick Fletcher, Malton, North Yorkshire Killing Eve is overrated – it’s an indulgent gore-fest. And Bond producers may live to regret turning to Waller-Bridge for the next movie, just because she is the latest hot name.
Bond is a very distinctive brand and you tamper with it at your peril. Even the reinvention of Bond with Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale wasn’t that far from the original film incarnation embodied by Sean Connery.
By trying ‘outsidethe-box’ talent such as Danny Boyle, who has left the project, and now Waller-Bridge, those behind this next Bond film may finally be killing off 007 as we know him. J. Benn, London I enjoyed the article on Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Fleabag and loved the show, but has anyone noticed the rather irritating number of times when Waller-Bridge could be accused of ‘self-reverence’, in that her character was frequently told how pretty/lovely she looked?
