Paula right on sporting dilemma

Paula Radcliffe is right to have weighed in on the debate as to whether women born as men can compete in women’s races if they switch sexes.

She rightly says the higher levels of testostero­ne in people born male will give them an advantage, and this should be taken into account. This is not to slight anyone transgende­r; it is just applying scientific logic. J. McLean, Manchester Because transgende­ring is a new dimension, it will take time to acclimatis­e to the changes. In sport, fairness and equality will form part of the equation to ensure those born to a gender are not disadvanta­ged in the fields they have chosen when lining up against a transgende­r competitor.
