Newcastle so close to safety after Perez puts the brakes on Southampton’s revival

NEWCASTLE moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Southampton.

Ayoze Perez put the Magpies in control with a brace before Mario Lemina gave Saints, who had won three of their last four, hope just before the hour mark.

Perez netted his third four minutes from the end to seal the victory.

West Ham and Leicester drew 2-2 at the London Stadium.

Michail Antonio put the Hammers ahead before Jamie Vardy drew the Foxes level. Lucas Perez restored West Ham’s lead only for Harvey Barnes to equalise late on.

Watford seized pole position for seventh place after Gerard Deulofeu’s double helped them to a 2-1 win at Huddersfield.

Karlan Grant scored for the Terriers.

Despite already being relegated, Fulham triumphed 1-0 at Bournemouth.

Aleksandar Mitrovic netted the only goal from the penalty spot.
