WEATHER WATCH

- John Kettley

For those opting for an Easter break in southern Europe, the weather has taken a downturn.

Greece and Turkey have suffered wind and rain, Spain and Portugal have seen renewed downpours. Valencia collected 2ins (50mm) of rain on Thursday in a persistent deluge, but just 0.4ins (9mm) hit Almeria. With an active low pressure system locked into the western Mediterranean in the coming week, it remains cool and showery for the Spanish Costas.

At home, a late Easter generally means warmer weather and this year all is well, despite some rain reaching North West Scotland and tomorrow there is the threat of afternoon showers breaking out across the South West and Wales. Temperatures could top 25C in some areas. Then we will gradually see cooler and showery conditions in all parts.
